Navy Seals kick Pirates Ass

The recent Piracy taking place in the Atlantic ocean has been newsworthy but forgotten until a group of Somalian Pirates decided to take a U.S. owned vessel the Maersk Alabama.
Unless you just avoid TV, Radio, cellphone, computer or people you probably heard or read that Obama sent in his super trained Navy seals to save the selfless captain. In predictable fashion the Seals kicked the pirates asses, regardless if the pirates were only 19. This excerpts from the article posted on BBC by someone in their newsroom.

Captain Richard Phillips (The captain that offered his freedom to the pirates so his crew could be freed) was rescued when American naval snipers opened fire on the pirates holding him in a lifeboat (What retard pirates store their hostage in a inflatable life boat when they are in a multi-ton steel container?), killing three outright.Mr Obama directly authorized Sunday's operation off Somalia's coast....US defence secretary Robert Gates said the pirates were between 17 and 19 years old, describing them as "untrained teenagers with heavy weapons".Speaking at the Marine Corps War College in Quantico, Mr Gates praised the dramatic rescue as a textbook" success story, and said piracy would be a top priority for the Obama administration (what about The economy, Iraq, Afganistan, N. Korea?).

The pirates hijacked Capt Phillips' ship, the Maersk Alabama, which was carrying food aid, in the Indian Ocean last Wednesday.President Obama 'resolved to confront piracy'Capt Phillips told his crew to lock themselves in a cabin and surrendered himself to safeguard his men.He was then taken hostage in an enclosed lifeboat that was soon shadowed by US warships and a helicopter.

The BBC's Jonah Fisher in Mombasa says the one remaining question surrounding the Maersk Alabama is how its crew of merchant seamen managed to fight off Somali pirates equipped with AK-47s. The crew refused to provide an answer because they said the techniques they used were being kept secret to help other ships resist pirate attack.(Pirates cant communicate what happened to other pirates, do they expect these secrets to last forever?)...A day after negotiations with the gang broke down (They were shot in the head, but whatever works. I thought there are no negotiations with terrorist?), snipers opened fire on Sunday from a nearby warship as a pirate pointed a gun at the captive, the navy said.

In grim news

In Eyl, a pirate stronghold on the Somali coast, one pirate chief reportedly threatened revenge against Americans."We will intensify our attacks even reaching very far away from Somalia waters, and next time we get American citizens... they [should] expect no mercy from us," Abdi Garad told the Associated Press by telephone.(Also BBC)

Which sucks but I hope they remember and don't put it past the rest of the world will blow up any country in Africa with no real outrage from anyone. Sudan has been screwed up for years and the only people that really express some sort of outrage or College Students looking for community service hours. Maybe ships can start using blackwater since there workload has been cut down in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to a source from BBC in a different article Piracy is a big problem according to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"There have been more that 130 attacks on ships off the coast of Somalia in the past year and more than 40 ships have been seized. The hijackings are threatening to destabilise one of the world's busiest shipping lanes."(BBC)

Not to be insensative but isnt that a sign that their is a humanitarian need to that part of Africa if the Pirates are coming primarly from one area. Maybe if they weren't hungry, pissed off or poor or educated they would find something better to do then messing with world Commerce. Expect cost of shit to go up again and now companies will attribute it to the cost of shipping.

In other good news Viacom(Spike TV) not allowing a fucked up situation get in the way of profit are producing a reality show based on two naval destroyers who are assigned to combat piracy. Deadliest catch eat your heart out, you can either watch someone catch crabs or shoot pirates. (New York Times)

But to comfort all ABC/Disney loves pirates they have made them millions portraying them as cool rebels. Its amusing to watch news reports from abc about the problem of piracy, after they confused all the kids. Mike Leach will always be here to defend pirates, GO TECH.
