Been up writing for hours and some thoughts

The Oil spill situation is everyone's faults, BP, the Regulators, the heads of those regulation agency, the politicians, the drill baby drill people who just want cheap gas, the protesters (Wtf is picketing going to do?), the people who being wrong, the voters who don't check voting records, the media for being in the pocket corporate sponsor, the people who still drive cars to run errands distances less than a mile (me), THE BIG 3 automakers (For killing progress in car manufacturing years ago), the people who think that not buying BP gas is punishing the company (It just makes for short lines and pushes them refining where the money is), Landis, Toyota, Wall Street, Primary Elections, who all got run out of the news cycle by something that will effect us for the next 30 years at least.

Someone asked me this question a couple years ago I think its apropos now that I'm ranting. Why does the news start every broadcast with the anchor saying "Good night Lubbock (or your city)" and then proceed to tell you all of the bad shit going on in the world?



On another note talk about the cities bottom falling from under you during your term Guatemalan Chief of Corruption Carlos Castresana resigned shortly after that (picture above paragraph) appeared in the city last week.

To the more interesting caveat to the story, did anyone see this sinkhole in Guatemala last week, there should be more done about this. An explanation, an investigation, HARP, at least some exploring. How much rope does it take to get down there to the bottom? What if there is not a bottom? MAGMA? Volcano Sediment? Atlantis? Tila Tequila? I don't even know where that came from. How many people fell in? Does insurance get to write this off under "Act of God Clause"(failure to deliver goods sold may be excused by an "act of God" if the absence of such act was a "basic assumption" of the contract, but has made the delivery commercially "impracticable")?




The Pacaya Volcano of Guatemala is plenty active as seen in the picture, for a small price you can pay to walk up to a lava river near the top of the volcano. And where a reporter was killed last month by a small eruption.

$30 billion losses + GM = A company ahead of the curve

Now that is a bold statement coming from a company who just lost $15.5 Billion in the last year. Earnest Meyer of MSN Money reports

"The news from Detroit just gets grimmer. With gas prices soaring, sales of fuel-guzzling SUVs and trucks are plummeting. The Big Three that once ruled the industry -- General Motors, Ford and Chrysler -- are cutting costs, shuttering plants and laying off workers. GM's share price is hovering near its lowest point in half a century; the company announced a whopping $15.5 billion loss in the second quarter of 2008."

I just don't have an idea how, this is Chevy staying ahead of the technological curve. Gas is already past $3.50. Staying ahead of the curve shoulda/woulda been around the $2.50 mark. That would of required Detroit to try to do something productive for their market, than the big oil companies and the middle east.
2010? How long have hybrid cars been around? The Toyota Prius was on sell in 2000, Honda Insight 1999, Honda Civic Hybrid 2002, Ford Escape/Honda Accord 2005. Ok. These are not electric vehicles, so Chevy is still ahead of the curve, right? Wrong!
Electric Cars have been around for years, or at least the concept and technology. Even Thomas Edison had an electric vehicle according to the Smithsonian Institute records. A site American History has a picture of him next to his vehicle.

In 2003 the Tesla Motor Company was Incorporated in the heart of Silicon Valley, California. The goal of the company was to create an efficient, good looking electric vehicle. They don't have nearly the market share of any of the big 3, and alto less funding. yet with $105 million dollars, they have created a great car with huge demand. Which was one of the answers often given by the big 3 in the 90's, is that there just is not a demand for electric vehicles. They were wrong, there is just not a demand for shitty looking electric vehicles. If the Big three invested less than 4% of their 2nd quarter losses they could have easily built this vehicle, and kept thousands of jobs.

This is the pinnacle of Executive branch arrogance, not once in this entire speech did President Semi-elect George Walker Bush. It is the congresses fault since they have encouraged war in Iraq to track Bin Laden, or was that sadam who knocked down the World Trade Center. You seem to have all these ideas, that encourage tax cuts. How do tax cuts pay for a multi-trillion dollar war? Not one analyst could explain that simple concept to me. But going into additional debt as a county is the answer in $600 tax refunds. It sounds like a lot now, but it isn't when consumers calculate their lost value during this administration. Housing values have plummeted alot more than $6.00, the price of gas has increased from about $1.34 to damn near $4.00 in less than 8 years. That $600 dollars is not nearly enough to compensate every citizen who footed the bill for the American elite tax cuts and the disastrous effects it along with a war with no direction has cost our country. Our grandchildren will be looking in the history book wondering how this could possibly happen to a nation of sensible people.
